How To Save Money When Moving Your Family

Moving can be a stressful endeavor because it can be expensive, time-consuming, and exhausting. Fortunately, there is no need for you to stress about the cost of moving. There are a number of things that you can do to cut the cost of moving.
Get Free Boxes
Your boxes are one of the unexpected things that can drive up the cost of moving (you’d be surprised how much new boxes can cost). There are many places that will give you free boxes if you just ask. Grocery stores, bookstores, liquor stores, and retail stores are some of the places that give out free boxes. Typically, places will only have a few boxes each so be prepared to stop by several locations in one trip.
Dollar Store
You will be able to find low-cost moving supplies at the dollar store. Bubble wrap, tape, and scissors are examples of some of the things that you can find at the dollar store. The items that you find at a dollar store will be cheaper than using a moving company’s supplies. You may also want to buy cleaning supplies from a dollar store (nice and efficient).
Declutter
Moving is a great time to get rid of the things that you do not need. The fewer items that you have, the less you will have to pay for your move. Decluttering will also make it easier for you to pack. There are several things that you can do with the things that you no longer want or need. You can donate them to your charity. You can also sell your wanted items, or just give things away to friends and family.
Use Newspapers & Blankets
You can use newspapers to wrap your fragile items. If you do not have any old newspapers around your home, then you will need to go to your local newspaper store. Ask them if they can give you a few old issues. Blankets, pillows, and clothes also make excellent packing protection. You already have to pack them, so why not do it wisely? Throw pillows on top of not-quite-full boxes to keep things from giggling, and blankets and clothes to wrap fragile pieces.
Do Your Homework On Moving Companies
A moving company can take the stress out of the moving process. However, it is a good idea to do your homework before you hire a moving company. Make sure that you choose a company that is licensed and insured. Things break during moves, it happens, working with a company that’s not going to stick you with the repair costs can take a huge stressor out of the mix. Also, check and see if they offer a bundling discount. Some companies, like Suddath Relocations, will give a discount if you use them for multiple services (think packing, unpacking, loading, ect.)
Furthermore, you should get quotes from multiple companies. The purpose of getting a quote is to make sure that you choose a company that fits your needs and budget. However, the price is not the only thing that you will need to take into consideration. You will need to look at the type of services you will be getting for the price, how reliable the services are, and how quickly they actually move you.
